The  exanimate rut is symbolic of Janies lost spirit, and the  unforgiving wheels parallel working in the shop every  bingle day, representing Jodys commands and wearing Janie down.   The  kinship between the rut and wheels ultimately illustrates Janies submission to Jody, therefore creating the  role that Janie is no longer herself.   By placing Janie in this situation, Hurston enables the reader to see that Janies opposition to her own actions are the  vitrine of her unhappiness.   Therefore, Janie can progress towards  quizzical her wants.  Janie is moved to question who she is by her unhappiness and is able to  embrace freedom as a part of her soul  aft   erwards Jodys death.
